Alex Rankin, MA (They/Them)

Alex was born in raised in the Lone Star State. They grew up in Dallas, Tx and earned their degree in Psychology with a minor in Human Services from Sam Houston State University (#GoBearcats). After earning their degree, they moved west to earn a prestigious masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from THE Northern Arizona University. Alex then accepted a position with Flagstaff Counseling Center and began earning hours to become a Licensed Professional Counselor. Following, they joined Beyond the Pines in April 2025 where they continue to collect direct hours toward independent licensure while practicing their craft in clinical mental health counseling 

 

In their therapy work, Alex uses a systemic framework that rests upon individualized trauma-informed care. They incorporate theoretical elements into their practice from a variety of therapies that include Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, art and music, and Feminist perspectives. They emphasize building a supportive and collaborative therapy alliance to safely work through current experiences and past traumas. Alex loves serving people who are working through issues related to relational functioning, identity, and sexuality. Alex identifies as queer and is passionate about serving people in the LGBTQ+ community. They see the need for therapists who are affirming and safe to work with. In this, Alex seeks to be that person in the therapy relationship and as a community member. 

 

When Alex isn’t doing work as clinical mental health therapist, they spend their time running the trails throughout FLG and creating delicious baked goods.
